Amanda Seyfried stars in "Seven Veils," the film directed by Atom Egoyan, at TIFF 2023

The filmmaker Atom Egoyan will have the world premiere of his new movie "Seven Veils" at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF.

Amanda Seyfried stars in this film, where she plays a theater director.

This is Egoyan's 18th feature film, which follows the story of Jeanine, a theater director who has been tasked with restaging her mentor's most famous work. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, she allows her return to the opera to be colored by her repressed traumas. In reality, the opera "Salome," by Richard Strauss, featured in this production, was directed by Egoyan in the version produced by the Canadian Opera Company in 1996.

Regarding Seyfried's role, the filmmaker has stated: "Amanda is a phenomenal actress and here she brilliantly portrays a woman dealing with complex and explosive relationships in her past, present, and future." He also commented on the film's premiere at TIFF 23: "Having the world premiere of this film at TIFF and partnering with the Canadian Opera Company truly brings together my two great passions in a beautiful way."

As of now, no further details about this production are known, but Cameron Bailey, the CEO of the festival, has assured that it is an extraordinary story. "Seven Veils" will be screened in the "Special Presentations" section on September 10 and will have another early release with the Canadian National Opera Company. The cast also includes: Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Vinessa Antoine, and Mark O’Brien.

This is the second time Seyfried has participated in and starred in one of Egoyan's films. The first was in 2010 with "Chloe," an erotic thriller where she played a young prostitute hired by Catherine (Julianne Moore) to test her husband's fidelity.

The Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 7 to 17.
