Under the slogan "Let's be protagonists," the Lima Film Festival returns, the most important space for Latin American and Ibero-American cinema in this part of the region, as well as the best refuge for world cinema. It serves as a shelter and protection for cinephiles, fulfilling the ritual of watching films in the most suitable space: the dark theater. However, it also aims to reach the audience, the real protagonist, who is not necessarily in the capital of the country, through virtual screenings on the festival's digital platforms.

From August 10th to 18th, there will be room for 138 films - including feature films, medium-length films, and short films - screened in theaters at five locations in the city (Centro Cultural PUCP, Complejo NOS PUCP, Cineplanet Alcázar, Cine Lumière at the Alianza Francesa de Lima, and Sala Armando Robles Godoy at the Ministry of Culture of Peru). For the virtual edition, available only within the country, the audience will have access to all Peruvian films in competition, as well as industry meetings and various exhibitions.

The 27th edition comes with competitive sections, national showcases, tributes, exhibitions, panel discussions, and more. The competitive section will feature a total of 34 Latin American films, divided into Fiction (16), Documentary (11), and Made in Peru (7) categories. In the Fiction category, viewers can watch the latest works of Lila Avilés with "Tótem," which was screened at the previous Berlinale edition; Lisandro Alonso's "Eureka" featuring Viggo Mortensen and Chiara Mastroianni; and Rodrigo Moreno's "The Delinquents," winner of the FIPRESCI Prize in the Un Certain Regard section. Other films include Matías Bize's "El castigo," Amat Escalante's "Perdidos en la noche," and Fernando López Cardona's Colombian film "Memento morí," among others.

The Documentary category will feature Maite Alberdi's "La memoria infinita," which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. It will also include Tatiana Huezo's "El eco," the Colombian films "Transfariana" by Joris Lachaise and "Amando a Martha" by Daniela López, as well as what might be Kleber Mendonça Filho's most personal film, "Pictures of Ghosts."

Outside the competition, there will be an extensive selection of films that have been featured in important festivals during the first semester of the year. Sections like "Aclamadas" and "Galas" will showcase the latest works from directors like Aki Kaurasmäki, Lucia Murat, Wes Anderson, Pedro Almodóvar, Wim Wenders, Nanni Moretti, Ira Sachs, and Justine Triet, among others.

The festival will also pay tribute to key figures in the Ibero-American and global film industry through various retrospectives, including works by Argentine director and producer Lita Stantic, Peruvian actor Hernán Romero, Spanish producer Esther García, French filmmaker Léos Carax, and one of the most influential figures of the Nouvelle Vague: Jean-Luc Godard.

Regarding Peruvian cinema, the festival continues to provide a privileged and essential space for the display of national identity. This new edition will feature the posthumous work of director Óscar Catacora, as well as films from directors such as Adrián Saba, Omar Forero, and Gonzalo Ladines, among others. The festival will also pay homage to one of the icons of Peruvian cinema, Armando Robles Godoy, on the occasion of his centennial birth, with the restored version of his film "La muralla verde" (1972) as the festival's opening film. Other restored films from the same director, such as "Imposible amor" (2000), "El cementerio de los elefantes" (1973), and "Sonata soledad" (1987), will also be screened.

Within this section dedicated to Peruvian cinema, there will be room for other restored cinematic classics and films from directors like Alberto 'Chicho' Durant, Francisco Lombardi, and Nora de Izcue, the first female director in the country. Her first work, a medium-length film called "Runan Caycu," was released in 1973. The festival will also include exhibitions such as "Muestra Intermitente: Reflexiones e imágenes a partir del cine peruano" and "Armando Robles Godoy: 100 años."

Below is the complete list of all the films in the festival, with tickets available for purchase now.
